Maybe I’ve just refined the ability to oversimplify what some consider difficult and important processes, also known as shitting on a good time…
But can someone please explain to me why the Worcester Public School system needs a birth certificate to register a new student who was born in Worcester? Considering the city already OWNS the certificates in question, how does providing one to another municipal office prove anything beyond a parents ability to complete simple tasks?
If this is any indication of how efficiently the Worcester Public Schools are run, we’re bound to have a smashing good time over the next 12 years together.

…if we make it that long.
That would assume that the WPS and the City share a computer system. They don’t. They don’t even communicate all that well.
Can’t they just call the Clerks office, maybe shoot an email? It’s not a big deal, just seems to be a complete waste of time for all parties involved. Somehow the city manages to keep track of when my dog license expires and my excise tax is over due, I bet we could figure this one out as well.
Even a search on the city website gives the proof of birth necessary, as if proving one was actually born is necessary.
I had to register my youngest daughter 2x, the second time made more difficult by the fact the I had only a photocopy of her vaccination records. The first time I registered her was somehow rendered invalid because the copy of the birth certificate I provided (the one we received at the hospital) was lacking not the all-important notary seal, but a signature.
I love the smell of byzantine paperwork in the morning. smells like “misplaced public funds.”
Welcome to Wusta!

Just wait until the beginning of the school year, when you’ll get to fill out the same contact and health information in triplicate (at least) – on many of the same forms you likely filled out today and will get to fill out again every year, for every child, regardless of whether any of the information changed from one year to the next…(this year we photocopied the forms leaving only the child’s name and age blank so that we can just update their ages next year…)
Joe, is there a support group for parents of the WPS yet? Maybe we need one.
