Question 2 on tonights Council Agenda

by Brendan Melican on September 9, 2008

No idea what direction this will go in. Apparently the City Council felt it was OK to bypass the traditional public hearing aspect of government; I would guess that’s due in part to 71% of Bay State residents already showing their support for Question 2 in last months Suffolk University poll. Here’s the item as it appears on tonights agenda.

Request the City Council of the City of Worcester adopt a resolution for going on record in opposition to Question 2 ballot referendum that will decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana. (Haller)

No surprise that District 4 Councilor, Barbara Haller entered this one. I hear she is also working on a resolution which will place all blame for District 4′s issues on video games and soda pop.

*UPDATE*
Scott over at Worcester Magazines daily worcesteria blog is reporting that Rick Rushton plans to hold the item under privilege for a week.

Rushton says that between the number of emails and calls he and the city council office have gotten complaining about lack of notice, he thinks it is only fair to hold off for a week.

Thank you sir.
